Beauty in everything

'There is beauty in everything if you look for it,' I thought, as I strolled around my small English town. It was a pitch black February night, the air was crisp, and the smell of various home cooked meals floated in the air. With every step, I got glimmers of different lights, smells of different food and a chill in a new area of my body. To my right, was a row of townhouses all lit up and peacefully glistening among the night's sky. The moon was shining bright in the distance; completing the postcard-esque image. No noises were present, it was completely silent, by the odd car driving down the road. The pure peace and quiet brought a smile to my face as I continued walking forward, admiring the nighttime scene.

For context, I took the above walk after travelling around the world for a couple of months. During my travels I saw all of the natural beauties like waterfalls, rainforests, deserts and endless beaches. This is why I was so surprised that a simple walk in my hometown had me so mesmerised by the beauty of it. But it got me thinking, something doesn't have to be novel to be beautiful, it just has to be something that is special to you and gives you a moment of tranquillity.

After that night I began to look for beauty everywhere, and I began to find it. I went to get a coffee at my local coffee house one day. The chain-style type of coffee house where the drinks are ludicrously overpriced, and the staff look like they would rather be anywhere but there. However, this time instead of grabbing my coffee to go. I opted to stay. I also ordered something a bit fancier than normal, some sort of flavoured latte. I watched the barista make my drink and she did the most perfect love heart latte art. Beautiful, I thought. I found it incredible that such a random and mundane regular task could highlight beauty.

The walk and the coffee were only a couple of beauty sightings that I have found lately, but I have found that just by opening my eyes up to more of the world's natural beauty it has been appearing everywhere. The way a leaf is patterned, the way a tree's branches twist, or even the way the sun cascades down through the trees into the forest. It made me realise that natural beauty is everywhere if you just look for it. Just have a look around and I'm sure you'll find some beauty in your life.
